“The Ancient Near East And The Garden”

“The Ancient Near East And The Garden”

Est. Reading Time: 10 minutes

The ancient Near East, also known as ancient Mesopotamia, is where the Cradle of Civilization began, the Fertile Crescent. I’ve learned that Mesopotamia means something along the lines of ‘the land between the rivers’, being the Euphrates and the Tigris rivers. According to some archeological records, ancient Mesopotamia was first settled around 14,000 B.C.; of course, this can be debated, but I’ve read and learned that this is just an estimated timeframe.

The Sumerians believed that the Anunnaki came to this planet some 450,000 years ago, and Enki, one of the Anunnaki gods, is the creator of humanity. The Anuna/Anunnaki were considered gods by the Sumerian people, and the Sumerian word Digir is the Sumerian word for “god” or “goddess.” The Sumerians are considered one if not the first civilization on planet Earth and Sumer, the southernmost part of ancient Mesopotamia, was the location that the Sumerians once resided. The Sumerians believed that Enki, one of the Anunnaki gods, was the one who created humanity. Genesis in the Bible closely resembles what the Sumerians believed in about the creation of humanity. From what I understand from what I’ve read from many different books is that homo-sapiens were first on this planet sometime around 200,000 years ago and in some cases further back than that, depending on the source. And I’ve read that there is no clear indication how exactly homo-sapiens could create such a civilization while learning about agriculture and metallurgy during being hunters and gatherers.

When I do a side-by-side comparison of the Bible and ancient Mesopotamian texts, I can see for myself how the Bible reiterates what the Sumerians said in their cuneiform text. According to many different archeological digs, the first written language goes to the Sumerians of Sumer, ancient Mesopotamia. Sumer in the Bible is called Shinar, and understanding how Shinar is the same as Sumer, helps me understand that what’s written in the Bible is no different than what the Sumerians believed in about their gods. If the Bible is the absolute truth to its believers, how come Sumerians mythology is considered fictional and that so many people refuse to believe in what the Sumerians believed? The Bible’s stories are just re-written accounts of what happened in Sumer told by the Sumerians.

Genesis 1:26-28(KJV)

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Genesis 2:15(KJV)

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

The Garden of Eden, from what I’ve learned, is derived from the Akkadian term edinu, which means “plain.” The Akkadian Empire, which was founded around 2334 B.C., came after the Sumerian civilization. The Akkadians also believed in the Anunnaki. The word Anunnaki is actually an Akkadian term which means something along the lines of “Those who from heaven came down to earth.” When I read the book “The Epic Of Gilgamesh” by Andrew George, I came across the garden of the gods. From what I understand about the gods’ garden, this was where the gods resided, and no human was allowed to enter without permission. And from what I’ve learned through researching the gods’ garden, many locations could consist of this location, locations like the Dilmun civilization of Eastern Arabia, Lebanon and Mount Hermon from Gilgamesh’s stories, Nippur, and even Nibru that’s mentioned through this website https://etcsl.orinst.ox.ac.uk/cgi-bin/etcsl.cgi. The Sumerians believed that Eridu, which was founded around 5400 B.C., was created by the gods (Anunnaki), and it was the home to their god Enki also known as Ea in Akkadian. The first gods garden could have been Eridu; if possible, especially knowing that the Anunnaki chose ancient Mesopotamia as one of their residences?

Genesis 3:8(KJV)

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

What Genesis 3:8 means to me is that man and woman walked among gods somewhere here on this planet, and they were definitely the chosen ones to be able to do so. There are many theories about where the Garden of Eden was located, and even though there is no definite proof of it, we have stories from around the world that indicate there was one.

The Bible, at least the KJV, tells us that God created man and man was to dress and keep the Garden Of Eden. Basically, man was to work for God and obey his commands. But why would a God need to create a human to work for him, especially since many Angels could have done the toiling? Why create humans who have no idea about knowledge or life, dress his most precious location on Earth? These are the type of questions I asked myself when I was a kid attending Church services. To find those answers, I had to read books. Eventually, I came across the Sumerians. I found that the Sumerians believed that the Anunnaki first created man because they needed a substitute for the lesser gods digging for precious metals and other materials. These lesser gods were fed up with the hard work and demanded change. Enki was the god who created the first man with others’ help, and through those creations, there was a trial and error until they created the perfect human; the perfect man wasn’t created with one try. It took some time to create the first perfect human for the exhausting physical labor.

Enki and Ninma?: c.1.1.2
At that time, the one of great wisdom, the creator of all the senior gods, Enki lay on his bed, not waking up from his sleep, in the deep engur, in the subterranean water, the place the inside of which no other god knows. The gods said, weeping: “He is the cause of the lamenting!” Namma, the primeval mother who gave birth to the senior gods, took the tears of the gods to the one who lay sleeping, to the one who did not wake up from his bed, to her son: “Are you really lying there asleep, and …… not awake? The gods, your creatures, are smashing their ……. My son, wake up from your bed! Please apply the skill deriving from your wisdom and create a substitute (?) for the gods so that they can be freed from their toil!”

Enki and Ninma?: c.1.1.2
At the word of his mother Namma, Enki rose up from his bed. In ?al-an-kug, his room for pondering, he slapped his thigh in annoyance. The wise and intelligent one, the prudent, …… of skills, the fashioner of the design of everything brought to life birth-goddesses (?). Enki reached out his arm over them and turned his attention to them. And after Enki, the fashioner of designs by himself, had pondered the matter, he said to his mother Namma: “My mother, the creature you planned will really come into existence. Impose on him the work of carrying baskets. You should knead clay from the top of the abzu; the birth-goddesses (?) will nip off the clay and you shall bring the form into existence. Let Ninma? act as your assistant; and let Ninimma, Šu-zi-ana, Ninmada, Ninbarag, Ninmug, …… and Ninguna stand by as you give birth. My mother, after you have decreed his fate, let Ninma? impose on him the work of carrying baskets.” (5 lines fragmentary)…… she placed it on grass and purified the birth.

There were a group of individuals who were on this planet before the Sumerian civilization. There are monuments such as Göbekli Tepe that are dated to being around 12,000 years old that proves this, but there is little or no evidence of people living there; it’s not exactly known why Göbekli Tepe was created; one theory may have been that it was used for religious reasons. The Nabta Playa stone circles in Africa are the oldest astronomical site on Earth, going back some 7,000 years, and this, of course, was built by someone. And what I’ve learned is that the people of Nabta Playa may have believed in many of what the ancient Egyptians believed in. Many scholars believe that the ancient Egyptian gods could be the Anunnaki, and to me, that’s amazing.

Nabta Playa Stone Circles

To me, this is fascinating because knowing about what I know being raised Catholic as a child and reading the Bible (KJV), I wonder why this isn’t taught in-depth in the Church about the Anunnaki? Especially since the story of Adam and Eve and also Noah can be traced back to the Sumerians. From my experience, I’ve read where people believe there is no god, but believe in Aliens but also don’t believe in the Anunnaki. That, to me, doesn’t make sense at all. Dr. Mario Livio, an internationally known astrophysicist, agrees that there could be anywhere from 100 billion to 200 billion galaxies. And when you consider how many galaxies there could be, imagine how many other habitable planets are out there. According to a new research using data from the Kepler space telescope and a collaboration of scientists from NASA, the Seti Institue, and other organizations worldwide, estimate as many as 300 million possible habitable planets in just our galaxy alone. Let me remind you there could be a possibility of up to 200 billion galaxies. If we may have that many habitable planets in just our galaxy, there may be a chance of intelligent beings other than us and with far more advanced technology. And it could very well be possible that those intelligent beings be the Anunnaki who may have created us and traveled from the “heavens” to planet Earth.
